His home country casted him out one and a half year ago. Spoken word artist Kosal Khiev, born in a refugee camp in Thailand, grew up in the Ghettos of the United States of America. After having served 14 years in the prisons of the USA because of attempted murder, he was deported to a country he never saw before. Without having a job, his family or even proper local language skills, the 32 years old artist started to fight for his beliefs.
The spoken word film "Why I write" directed by Masahiro Sugano, is nominated for the ZEBRA Poetry Film Festival in Berlin. Kosal Khiev will start his first journey to Berlin on Oct 18th and will discover the capital until Oct 21st.
I traveled continents to discover the world. What I found was a second home. After my Journalism Studies I moved from Leipzig to Cambodia's capital Phnom Penh. Having reported about the country's development for two years, I returned to Germany with a different point of view.
